Light cap and corner wear, even page toning, many unopened sections and several opening mishaps with no text loss. Some have foxing starting and marking ribbons that are a bit short and frayed. Two plates had tissue mishaps sticking against plates one was replaced and one plate has traces of tissue residue.
To be read with sharp letter opener to prevent page chipping.

Beautifully shelved at 7. Nearly fine set in the original green cloth. This is a handsome collection of 39 volumes of the works of William Shakespeare. Circa per the most recent date listed on the copyright page ; J. Gilt top edges.
Ribbon page markers. Each volume contains a frontispiece illustration as well as a color illustration on the front and rear pastedowns. Condition: Overall the lot is in good condition. The covers and spines are mostly clean and in nice condition with bright gilt lettering and decorations; varying degrees of wear to most of the spine heads.
The primary condition issue with this lot is that most volumes contain heavy notes, underlines and markings in pencil - the handwriting is extremely neat and tiny, possibly made by a serious Shakespeare scholar. Merry Wives of Windsor has a small tear at the spine. The front cover of Hamlet is present but detached. The front cover of The Tempest has separated half-way down from the top.
All volumes are tightly bound with no loose pages found. The ribbon page markers are missing in some volumes, and are present but detached in others. Large 8 vo. Scarce and wonderful leather copy of the Savoy Edition of the Works: "containing 12 double-page and 16 single-page reproductions in colour of famous Shakesperian pictures and 65 facsimiles of photographs of the most popular Shakesperian actors and actresses in their leading parts" all illus are present and intact ; black grained leather with gilt decor and lettering; gilt page edges, ribbon marker; marbled eps; tissue overlay to title page; crack to front gutter but holding fine; some archival repair to formerly loose pages; small tear to upper spine..
